Horticultural Equipment and Turnkey Horticultural Projects

Year-round and energy efficient

Heating & Cooling Systems

Climate plays an important role in the production and quality of your crop and the desire to grow all year round. To create the ideal environment, we provide the perfect, constant mix of heating, cooling, light, CO2 and moisture, regardless of extreme climate conditions.

What’s more, our installations are energy efficient. For example, our parent company Bosman Van Zaal realised the first greenhouse without gas. All elements of our projects are linked together by high-quality electrical installations to form an integrated whole. These installations form the basis for the control of all our systems. They are all energy-saving and sustainably integrated. In addition, all our systems are linked to specially developed software, so that the use and needs of a crop are immediately apparent.

Some of the products we supply:

  • (Electric) Boilers
  • Heat Pumps
  • Geothermal Energy
  • Solar Thermal Collectors
  • Mechanical Cooling
  • Adiabatic Cooling (Pad & Fan)
  • Air Purification
  • CO2 Dosing Systems
  • ClimaPora (Semi-Closed Climate System)
  • Buffer Tanks
Until recently, heat pumps were rarely a viable option for UK growers. Now, however, the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) has transformed the economics of heat pumps in the UK. Heat pumps are now a practical option for heating, cooling (and generating RHI revenue) in a sustainable and economic way.

Although heat pumps can extract heat from the ground or air, in horticulture heat pumps are more commonly used in combination with natural water sources such as wells, springs, and reservoirs. The principle of the heat pump is well established and simple (all fridges, freezers, and air conditioning systems rely on the heat pump principle): low-grade heat (or cold) is retrieved from the environment and transformed by the heat pump to a considerably higher temperature, after which it can be deployed elsewhere.

The ratio of heat output compared to electrical input is referred to as the Coefficient of Performance (CoP) and will generally be in the region of 4:1 or better (4kW heat out from 1 kW electrical energy in).

CMW can manage the entire process from start to finish. From the initial feasibility and capacity calculations, integration with your existing heating system, installation of the heat pump and ancillaries, including drilling and groundwork where necessary, and ongoing maintenance. Integration of all these disciplines under one roof leads to the most reliable end result.

CO2 enrichment is key to bumper yields and premium crops. CMW can equip your nursery with the ideal CO2 system from whatever CO2 source(s) may be available: Gas or kerosene boiler CO2 sensor, A combined heat and power unit (CHP), Direct fired CO2 generators, Liquid CO2.

All CO2 sources must be monitored and controlled carefully – not only to ensure optimum plant growth but also to prevent wasteful overdosing, which is environmentally unacceptable and may cause crop damage. Electronic CO2 sensors are very popular and reliable. Many types of electronic sensor are compatible with the Priva environmental computer system. CMW also supply portable CO2 instruments.

CMW has over 30 years experience in designing, supplying and installing CO2 distribution systems, right from the boiler house to the crop, including fans, mains, sub-mains and layflat tubing.
